Kegoikantse Kgomo, Head of the Department Sport and Recreation.
Kgomo is no stranger to the USSA Council, since he has served as General Secretary from 2018-2021. He joined USSA in 2009 and has been rising in the ranks since then. According to him, his election as Chairperson is a responsibility, that will require hard work and dedication.
He will serve with Ms Azania Mashushu (Vice-Chairperson) from North West University, Ellroy Smith (General Secretary) from Stellenbosch University, Hassan Sobekwa (Finance and Marketing Officer) from the University of the Western Cape. Two students, Thabo Mabuya from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and Mmathabo Moreki, from North West University’s Vaal Campus, will also serve on the committee as Development Officer and Tournament Convenor respectively.
Sharing his love for football, passion and the challenges he faced in achieving his goals, Kgomo explained that he grew up playing soccer and supporting local football clubs. When he enrolled in Sport Science at the North West University, he joined the soccer institute until he graduated. Soon after graduating he was appointed in a football related position, which opened the door to his career in the industry.
When he was appointed Sport Organiser at TUT’s Polokwane Campus, his portfolio expanded, when he had to deal with other sporting codes as well as football. He continued to climb the industry ladder and was later appointed Senior Sport Organiser at the Pretoria Campus, where his primary focus was the growth and development of football at the institution.
He’s currently enrolled for a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology and Coaching Science.
Concluding, he said he values his family and the mentors he has had, one of them being TUT’s Dr Shadrack Nthangeni, Acting Executive Director Student Affairs and Extracurricular Development (SAED).
- Constituted on 16 April 1994, USSA is considered the official unified national umbrella sports structure for the regulation, organization and coordination of student sports activities at regional, provincial and national levels in the tertiary education sector of South Africa.
USSA was founded within the tertiary education sector in order to represent and protect the sporting interests of all students at member institutions based on the principles of unity, accountability, non-racialism, non-sexism and democracy.
USSA's core business is to maximize student participation and encourage sporting practice in harmony with and complementary to the academic character and values of tertiary education institutions.
