Welcome to the new Vice-Chancellor and Principal

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) community is proud to welcome Professor Tinyiko Maluleke as the new Vice-Chancellor and Principal.

Prof Maluleke started his term of office today, on 1 February, after serving as Senior Research Fellow and Deputy Director at University of Pretoria’s Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship. He is a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor at UP. 

Prof Maluleke is an extremely experienced senior leader. He has two decades of executive management experience within the higher education sector. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of South Africa and has been a full professor since the year 2000. In addition, he has a B1 National Research Foundation (NRF) rating. 

As an influential voice for research and higher education at a national and international level, Professor Maluleke appears regularly in the national media and has strong networks in government and major research and funding organisations.

Speaking on his first day of work, Prof Maluleke said It feels good to join staff and students of the largest contact University in South Africa. “It is an even greater privilege for me to lead the most talented professionals and academics in higher education today. Some of the most gifted and most resilient students in the higher education sector are found here. The tremendous contribution that TUT is making to the country’s skills base makes it a national treasure. It is also one of the leading University of Technology on the African continent. I intend to challenge and inspire my colleagues so that together, we will make TUT a global center of excellence in technology education,” Prof Maluleke said.
