Terence Motsepe.
The first-year Water Treatment diploma student has his hopes pinned on the first prize in the category of Traditional Music Accapella song. He needs support from the entire TUT community to vote for his song entitled “Ubaba” (meaning Father). The song reflects one of the societal ills, wherein a father abandons his family to live with a young woman. In the song Motsepe cautions against such behaviour.
Motsepe is no stranger to the fame that comes with SATMA recognition. In 2018, the music group, Amarobazibukhali, that he founded with his mother, won the SATMA13 in the Best Ndebele Album category. His music journey started in 2005, when he was a back-up vocalist at his grandfather’s church. He currently works with internationally acclaimed queen of Ndebele music, Dr Nothembi Mkhwebana, as back-up vocalist and dancer.
Motsepe hopes that winning the first prize in the SATMA16 Acapella Music category will enable him to promote the legacy of traditional African music to the next generation even better. He added: "The SATMA16 nomination means a lot to me because it will open doors for me to work with renowned artist and also showcase my talent to the entire world”.
People can vote by SMS (SATMA93) to 49495. Each SMS costs R1,50
Voting lines close on 25 November 2021.
