Centre for Tissue Engineering nominated as finalist for top science award

07 June 2018

The annual Vision 2030 Awards have announced their 2018 finalists, and TUT’s Centre for Tissue Engineering is one of them. “Myself, together with everyone involved at the Centre are so proud of this achievement, regardless of the outcome. It is wonderful to receive this kind of recognition for the work we do,” says Cleo Ndhlovu, Centre Manager. “But let us keep thumbs together for an award,” she adds with a smile.

These awards recognise the achievements and success stories of organisations, enterprises and individuals that are actively demonstrating alignment to the government’s Nine-Point Plan to boost economic growth and achieve the milestones set by the National Development Plan (NDP).

“The overwhelming number of nominations for the various categories of the awards casts a positive glow on the future of South Africa and showcases the commitment of both the public and private sector to the NDP. This achievement places the Centre for Tissue Engineering at the forefront of national development and reinforces the importance of private and public sector support for and commitment to the National Development Plan,” says Aisha Crombie, Nominations Manager, Top Media and Communications.

For the Science and Technology Award, the judges will identify an organisation that is making significant headway in overcoming the challenges facing the South African science, technology and innovation sector. This includes human capital development and the continuous modernisation of scientific infrastructure such as laboratories and IT equipment – with the aim of rapidly unlocking the potential of science, technology and innovation to contribute to economic growth.

The winners will be announced on 21 June 2018 at Emperors Palace, Ekurhuleni.
