Trio called-up for Banyana Banyana AWCON qualifiers match

05 June 2018

Three TUT female football players, Refiloe Jane, Rachel Sebati and Hilda Magaia have been called up to join the Banyana Banyana squad that will challenge Lesotho at 15:00 on 6 June 2018 in the two-legged Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifiers. Hosted by Ghana, the event will take place from 1 to 11 June 2018.

Magaia, who has starred as TUT’s attacking middle fielder this season, is one of three new faces coach Desiree Ellis included in the 24-player squad.

According to Ellis, the women's football event will produce the African representatives for the Fifa Women's World Cup with the top three teams qualifying for France in 2019. She said that, although the squad has previously played against, and beat Lesotho, this is a new game and a different challenge.

"Victory will get us to the 2018 AWCON in Ghana, but we all know that no game is ever as easy as it seems. We will have to be in top shape to get a positive result in the first leg. We must start on a good footing to ensure we finish the business at home,” said Ellis.
