TUT welcomes new Director for Sport and Recreation

Dr Hajira Mashego, a highly impactful and respected sport professional, has been appointed to take over the reigns as the Tshwane University of Technology’s new Director of Sport and Recreation. She took office on 1 November 2023.

Dr Mashego started her career in 1995 as a Physiotherapist and progressed to specialise in sports physiotherapy. She then worked as an academic for at least two local universities. Dr Mashego has also worked at senior management level for national sporting bodies such as, the SA Sports Commission (SASC), Sport and Recreation South Africa, as well as the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation. 

She holds a BSc in Physiotherapy, an advanced Diploma in Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy and an Advanced Diploma in Sport Management, which she obtained Cum Laude. She furthered her studies, completing a Master’s degree in Public Health (Cum Laude) and a PhD in Human Movement Science, both focussed on fitness. 

In addition, Dr Mashigo holds a qualification in Social Entrepreneurship and a Professional Director PD(SA) designation. She has served a combined 28 years in the health, wellness, and sports sectors. 

The University could not have found a more accomplished professional and proven leader than Dr Hajira Mashego to assume the position of Director of Sport and Recreation and we wish her all the best in her duties.
