TUT Alum appointed to head Tshwane FM 93.6

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) has appointed Tebogo Jacko Magubane, Alum from the Faculty of Economics and Finance and a trailblazer in broadcast media with more than 20 years’ experience, to lead Tshwane FM 93.6 as Station Manager. His appointment became effective from 1 July 2023.

Magubane describes himself as a radio enthusiast who has the required knowledge, experience and skills of a vibrant and insightful radio station manager and programmer.

Speaking on his appointment, Magubane says that he is excited and geared to contribute to the success of Tshwane FM and build on the University’s brand. “My dream of becoming an entertainer started at this very station that I have just been appointed to lead. This was back in the days when the station was called TUT Top Stereo 93.6.”

“I held various positions at Top Stereo 93.6 while juggling working as a student publication editor. This station contributed immensely to my career path, achievements and recognition received. All I can say is that I am happy to be back ‘home’,” said Magubane.

In the media space, colleagues describe Magubane as a content champion, a passionate broadcaster who is always ahead of developments in the areas of media and broadcasting, nationally and internationally.

The passionate, techno savvy Magubane holds a National Certificate Accounting obtained at the University in 2001. He completed a Certificate in Broadcasting Techniques for developing countries in the Republic of China, where he refined his skills at China Radio and TV Corporation for International Techno-Economic Cooperation (CRTV). Magubane also graduated with a Law Degree from UNISA and holds an Advanced Certificate in Broadcast from the University of Witwatersrand.

Magubane’s career history at the SABC began in 2008 when he joined Mungana Lonene FM as a presenter. He was then promoted to Producer for Phaphama (Breakfast Show) and took on the additional role of the show's traffic presenter. In 2018, Magubane was appointed Programmes Manager. In 2020, he became Acting Station Manager for Mungana Lonene FM and he held the position for a year until the national broadcaster discontinued the position in 2021. He then reverted to the role of Programmes Manager until his departure in June.
