Dr Tamba Jamiru.
The Advanced Materials Award is a prestigious honour that IAAM confers on elite researchers and scientists who have been involved in quality research for many years and contributed significantly to interface Materials Science, Engineering and Technology. IAAM endeavours to appreciate the hard work and unyielding efforts of high-achieving researchers working in different areas and to recognize their perseverance.
The association presents the Advanced Materials Award in many categories, including but not limited to European, American, Asian, and Australian Advanced Materials Awards, Graphene Award, Innovation Award, Sustainability Award, Polymer Award, Nano Award, 2D Materials Award, Energy Award, Investigator Award and more.
Speaking on the award, Dr Jamiru said that he is overwhelmed and humbled by the honour. “I truly appreciate Moreso because I did not achieve this alone. It was made possible by the hard work of dedicated students and colleagues and by extension opportunities provided by Tshwane University of Technology.
Dr Jamiru is co-inventor of three registered patents in South Africa with the fourth currently being registered by the Directorate of Research and Innovation - all addressing advanced engineering materials related problems that involve the interface of materials science, engineering and technology. He was recently awarded a Department of Science and Innovation certificate of recognition for the contribution made in one of the inventions; South African Patent No. 2019/07998 entitled “thermal conductivity Alloy."
He is an established researcher with an NRF C2 rating in Applied Materials Science and Corrosion.
His current research focus areas include:
- Building a niche area in Phase transformation. This requires expanding his understanding on how the changes in the micro-structure alter the properties of a select class of high-performance advanced engineering material by some key thermo-mechanical processes.
- Exploring and deepening interdisciplinary collaboration as a good way to expand knowledge, while at the same time providing the opportunity to address the ever-evolving multi-disciplinary research questions, especially in his line of research which cuts across all the engineering disciples.
- To straighten out in an innovative way, the existing supporting laboratories with the relevant equipment and literature.
