Academic staff enjoying Top Achievers Awards.
The 2022 Top Achievers from different Departments at the Faculty including Computer Sciences, Computer System Engineering, Informatics, Information Technology and Multimedia Computing were recognised on 11 August at the Soshanguve South Campus. The Faculty’s academic mentors and tutors were also appreciated for the challenging work they put in to ensure that the students excel academically.
Dr Etienne Van Wyk, Executive Dean of the Faculty of ICT and Interim campus rector said: “We honour the tireless efforts of our students who consistently strive for greatness and have demonstrated commitment to their personal and academic growth. Each award symbolises a step towards building a better world.”
He added that every achievement is backed up by a story of encouragement, late night sessions, unwavering believe and perseverance. “Success is not only about the destination, but the journey itself; the challenges one must overcome as well as the lessons one learns. Initiatives like the Top Achievers Awards aims to make education more inclusive and encourage students to be productive. These serve as a daily reminder of a student’s achievement, lasting well beyond the ceremony where they were presented.”
Thulani Mtombeni, a former student at the Faculty and currently a Tutor at Informatics Community Engagement Project (ICEP) emphasised the importance of the Top Achievers Awards initiative for students as it will inspire others to do better and hopefully at the end increase the Faculty’s success rate.
Upon receiving his awards as a tutor, he jubilantly concluded: “It is a great honour to receive an award, however, the greatest honour is to see the students we tutored receiving awards for their hard work. That really makes me happy.”
