Mr Isaac Tlhabadira, recipient of the 2023 International Best Researcher Award from the International Society for Scientific Network (ISSN).
"I feel truly honoured receiving the prestigious ISSN 2023 International Best Researcher Award with my team, for the field of Mechanical Engineering. This recognition fuels my passion to continue working hard, pushing boundaries, innovating, and delivering supreme excellence in the Mechanical Engineering discipline” says Tlhabadira.
After following an apprenticeship as a Turner Machinist and qualifying as an artisan, later a mechanical technician and engineer in industry before joining TUT, Mr. Tlhabadira’s research interest are in High Speed Machining (HSM) with special focus in the machining of Titanium (Ti6Al4V) and its alloys. He is also doing work on the fabrication of machining inserts using ceramics (SiAlON), with the aim of producing more affordable machining inserts for the toolmaking-industry.
The ISSN awards are some of the biggest international research awards. Award nominees are elected by their peers, and awards are decided by esteemed professionals in the field of science, engineering and technology. The ISSN’s mission is to “recognize outstanding contributions to knowledge and increase public understanding in matters of science, engineering, medicine” and more. The award was accompanied by a gold medal.
