The Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) dedication to creating a healthy and supportive work environment has earned national recognition. The University has been awarded Founder Associate Status by the Work Wellness Association of South Africa (WWASA) - a mark of leadership in workplace wellness and employee care.

This exclusive, cost-free status forms part of WWASA’s inaugural launch phase and has been extended only to select institutions that have demonstrated a strong commitment to employee well-being.

As a Founder Associate, TUT will enjoy several benefits at no cost, including:

    • A Founder Associate Certificate acknowledging the University’s leadership in institutional wellness.
Access to resources, strategic support, and networking opportunities.
    • A 10-step roadmap to integrate wellness into HR and operational planning.
    • The chance to contribute to and co-create national workplace wellness benchmarks.

According to Fanus Engebrecht, WWASA’s Corporate Wellness Specialist and Interim Board Secretary, the partnership positions TUT as a frontrunner in the sector.

“With WWASA on your side, TUT will become a leader in wellness,” he said.

He explained that by embracing WWASA’s programmes, the University stands to achieve measurable benefits such as lower healthcare costs, higher productivity, stronger employee engagement, improved retention and Employer of Choice status.

Dr Priscilla Lekgetho, TUT’s Health and Wellness Manager since 2011, welcomed the recognition, noting that it will ease the pressures her department faces.

“With our limited resources, partnering with WWASA will help strengthen wellness systems, develop policies and standards and provide strategic support. This will really assist with workload issues and make TUT a more caring employer,” she said.

Dr Lekgetho received the Founder Associate Award on behalf of the University.
