The Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Business and Information Management and Services recently welcomed esteemed international speaker Dr Alfonso Montero for a thought-provoking lecture on The Future of Work in the Age of AI. The session focused on the intersection of artificial intelligence, leadership and systems thinking as well as how these forces are reshaping organisational structures and redefining human roles.

Dr Montero is a distinguished scholar-practitioner whose work centers on leadership, systems thinking and AI. His research delves into emerging areas such as posthumanism, the integration of human and artificial intelligence, and the systemic transformations impacting the nature of work and leadership in the digital age. Deeply committed to preparing future leaders for the complexities of an AI-driven world, Dr Montero brings both academic rigor and practical insight to these pressing topics.

He recently completed two seminal works: Systems Thinking in the Age of AI and Shaping the Future of Leadership in AI-Driven Workplaces: A Systems Thinking Approach. These publications critically examine the evolving role of leadership amid rapid technological advancements.

With extensive teaching experience at both master's and doctoral levels, Dr Montero has advised scholar-practitioners focused on leadership transformation, social justice, and adaptive systems. His influence extends beyond academia through leadership training for executives at Boeing, as well as engagements with non-profit organisations and government agencies across the globe.

Dr Montero's global footprint includes training programmes for international NGOs and government entities in countries such as Ukraine and Morocco. He also contributes to ongoing discourse on global AI policy and ethics through his involvement with the World Affairs division of the Commonwealth Club.
