The Faculty of Arts and Design at the Tshwane University of Technology invites staff and students to participate in My Piece of Peace, an artivist initiative that turns personal reflection into a powerful act of collective resistance. As part of the 100 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), this project asks a simple, yet poignant question: “What brings me peace?”.
In a world fractured by war, conflict and the persistent realities of violence both locally and globally, each response to this question will be captured on a small post-it and collectively transformed into a permanent decoupage mural on the Arts Campus. Together, these individual pieces will form a Peace Wall, a living artwork that reflects our shared longing for healing, resilience and a world free from violence.
In South Africa, where the crisis of GBV remains a daily reality, My Piece of Peace invites us to imagine peace not as a distant ideal but as a lived, everyday practice. It reminds us that peace takes root in small acts, through moments of care, kindness and the willingness to stand against injustice in our homes, on our campuses and within our communities.
This initiative is a project of the Research Niche Area: Artivism as a Tool to Combat GBV, highlighting how creative expression can spark awareness, foster healing and inspire social change.
Other campuses and communities across South Africa are invited to join the Faculty in creating their own Peace Walls, building a movement where art becomes a powerful symbol of activism and hope.
Together, let us turn our public spaces into living monuments of peace, because every voice matters and every piece of peace brings us closer to the world we long for.
