The Pretoria-born media entrepreneur and TUT journalism alumnus, Ananias Ndlovu, was honoured as one of South Africa’s top 100 influential men at a glamourous award ceremony, hosted by Big M Productions at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg. Ananias Ndlovu is a respected figure in South Africa’s community media landscape.
Ndlovu is well-known for his advocacy on affairs concerning community media. He received the accolade in recognition of his long-standing contribution to the development of community media. As the publisher of Naledi News and founder of the North West Media Awards, he has played a critical role in supporting independent journalism and promoting accountability through grassroots reporting.
Speaking at the event, Ndlovu said, “This award is not only about me—it is about the power of community media and its role in giving people a voice. I am humbled and honoured to be reckoned among such impactful individuals.”
In a recent interview on TUTFM’s Plug-A-Graduate show, Ndlovu urged graduates to consider community media as potential employer rather than a stepping stone to the mainstream media.
Ndlovu’s inclusion on the Top 100 Influential Men list underscores the growing recognition of community media as a force for social change and development in South Africa. He has more than 25 years of experience in mainstream and community media. Currently a member of the Executive Committee of the National Press Club, Ndlovu mentors young journalists and is actively involved in research and training.
