More than 200 underprivileged learners in Soshanguve started the school year on a brighter note thanks to TUT FM 96.2 and its partners, Baggio Events, Botshilu Private Hospital and Old Mutual. The group donated 220 pairs of school shoes to learners from Tsaroga Phoka Primary, Padisago Primary and Ubuhlebezwe Primary, ensuring that they have proper footwear as they pursue their education.

The handover took place at the United Reformed Church of South Africa in Soshanguve North, Block BB, where learners and community members gathered to celebrate the act of kindness. The initiative was about recognising academic excellence. Top-performing learners from the 2024 academic year received Certificates of Excellence to acknowledge their hard work and inspire them to continue striving for success. In addition, Old Mutual provided lunch box containers, ensuring that the children have proper food storage for their daily meals.

Kedibone Tshelela, TUT FM Station Manager, highlighted the station’s ongoing commitment to uplifting communities beyond special occasions. “At TUT FM, we believe that giving should not be limited to Mandela Month but should be a continuous effort throughout the year. Education is a key pillar of development and by providing such essential resources, we hope to impact meaningfully on the lives of young learners. Seeing their smiles and excitement reminds us why these initiatives matter,” she said.

Baggio Events, a key partner in the initiative, echoed similar sentiments. They mentioned that the partnership aligns perfectly with their vision of supporting sustainable community development. They added that they are committed to making a difference and ensuring that children have the tools they need to succeed in school.

The initiative has already set its sights on expansion. TUT FM and its partners have pledged to extend the programme in January 2026, reaching even more schools and ensuring that more children benefit from the generosity.
