Interest
Page Content
The word “interest” refers to the following:
The things that you enjoy doing
The activities that you enjoy doing more often than other activities
Any activity/hobby/interest that you spend more time on voluntarily
Any activity that you look forward to doing
Usually linked to the things that we are good at
Why is it important to know your interests?
When making a career choice it is important to know what your interests are because:
Make the process of choosing a career easier
Because if you choose a career based on your interests you will probably be happier and more successful in that career than if you have no interest in the career that you chose
It will also make your time at a tertiary institution more interesting and you will probably be more motivated to study
Career fields linked to specific interests
Remember that not all interests need to become a career and that it is possible to combine certain interests in once career. It is also very important to investigate the possibility of turning an interest into a career. Below we have linked some interest to possible career fields.
