The Department of Educational Foundation entails the preparation of teachers for the General Education and Training (GET) and Further Education and Training phases on the NQF. More specifically the department offers focused disciplinary learning, the foundations of education including general pedagogical learning, fundamental learning and situational learning spread across the phases of learning.

It compromises one qualification which is the Postgraduate Certificate in Education Further Education and Training to be offered in 2018 that accredits a professional teaching programme that caps an undergraduate or an approved diploma amidst servicing focused and developed teaching specialisation phases including subject-focused disciplinary, pedagogical and practical learning.

The main focus of the department is to develop teachers that are well prepared for general pedagogical learning, about principles, practices and methods of teaching; as well as knowledge of the varied situations, context and environments of education prevailing policy, political and organisational contexts. Our aim as a department which provides training for learning in context, learning about context including an understanding of the complex and differentiated nature of learning to work in nuanced ways in confronting the diverse challenges.
