TUT artists participate in biggest African glass art sculpture event

Blow Your Sculpture, in collaboration with Smelt Glass Studio, Obsidian Glass and the Pretoria Art Museum, bring you the biggest glass art sculpture event on the African continent! Seventeen artists and designers, among them staff, students and alumni from the Faculty of Arts and Design, have been hard at work making moulds, and blowing 1 000 °C hot glass into and on top of these moulds to create sculptural stories.  

Blow Your Sculpture started in 2014 as a collaborative project during the Cool Capital Biennale to promote the handmade glass industry and Pretoria as the glass capital of South Africa. 

The participating artists are: Bridget Modema (alumna), Caitlin Greenberg (staff member and alumna), Charl Enslin, Francois Visser, Gordon Froud, Guy du Toit, Izanne Wiid, Lothar Böttcher (alumnus), Malebogo Molokoane (Postgraduate Diploma student), Martli Jansen van Rensburg (alumna and part time lecturer), Mike Hyam (alumnus and part time lecturer), Peter du Toit, Stephen Mofokeng (alumnus), Suzaan Heyns, Suzanne Borman, Sybrand Wiechers, and Thabang Machipi (alumnus).

Blow Your Sculpture is the brainchild of Lothar Böttcher, and is made possible through collaboration with Martli Jansen van Rensburg and Mike Hyam of Smelt Glass Studio. 

The exhibition closes on 27 June 2021. 

The Pretoria Art Museum is situated at the corner of Francis Baard and Wessels Street, Arcadia Park, Pretoria.
