The talent of 36 young student directors from the Department of Drama and Film will be showcased during the annual Rostrum Roulette Festival at the Arts Campus, from 12 to 16 June.
The Rostrum Roulette Festival is a practical evaluation platform hosted by the Drama Programme for both third-year Applied Directing students and B Tech: Arts Administration students to run and participate in an authentic workplace festival. The first- and second-year students are also involved as actors, performers and crew members.
Third-year Directing students get to direct a 15-minute excerpt of a published production of their choice. For a week, these will showcase back-to-back on the TUT Arts Campus in the Rostrum Theatre, Studio, as well as other intimate and site-specific spaces. The campus will be filled with great performances; and as an audience member, one gets to choose which shows to witness. If you are a real theatre lover, you will probably see all the shows!
“The programme is packed with styles, genres and exciting mini-productions that are guaranteed to get the audience thinking, entertained and excited,” says Bongani Masango, one of the Arts Administration students.
