Alumna Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha (27) is the winner of the Song Prize at BBC Cardiff Singer of The World 2021.
The announcement was made during the broadcast of the competition’s Song Prize Final in June 2021.
Rangwanasha started singing at school and church at an early age. She completed her Postgraduate Diploma at the University of Cape Town, after obtaining a B Tech: Vocal Art (Performance) at TUT.
Speaking from the UK, Rangwanasha says: “This award means a lot to me, as I never imagined being a singer representing South Africa at the Cardiff Singer of the World. The award has made me realise that every dream is possible. To all aspiring opera singers out there: Just know that the sky is not the limit. Dream on!”
Staff at the Vocal Art programme are equally proud of their protégé.
“We at the Vocal Art programme are extremely proud of our alumna. As a student, she continuously demonstrated her commitment to her potential and aspirations, and is currently going from strength to strength,” says an elated Dr Laetitia Orlandi, Vocal Art lecturer at the Department of Performing Arts.
