On 22 May 2024, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Artificial Intelligence Hub in collaboration with Intel - industry leader in creating world-changing technology will launch an AI Career Tech Centre, a first of its kind at an Institution of higher education in Africa.

TUT and Intel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2023 aimed at further strengthening the ties between the two parties and promote collaboration that will benefit students and staff from both organisations.

One of the targeted initiatives in collaboration with Intel is to implement special programmes such as the Intel Digital Readiness Programme and the AI for Future Workforce training programme. These programmes will empower the future workforce with necessary AI skills for employability in the digital economy and provide over 200 hours of the latest teaching-learning content incorporating new AI trends.

Prof Anish Kurien, Acting Director of the TUT AI Hub said that in line with the objectives of setting up the TUT Hub of the AI Institute of South Africa, the collaboration with Intel is contributing to the development of human capital in AI and the development of a future AI skilled workforce for the country.

“The centre will house some of the latest Intel powered AI hardware. TUT AI Hub is grateful for the support and partnership from Intel,” Prof Kurien concluded.
