Student Mentorship @ TUT
“We dare to care”
Mentoring is about a more experienced student who assists and supports a less experienced student. Our mission is to enhance holistic student development and achievement. Student mentors are committed to ensure that every student is mentored (mentee), and to maximize their full potential through the effective and efficient use of institutional resources. Mentors are trained to be open and inclusive and embrace the unique cultures, backgrounds, life experience and skills of every mentee.
How to become a student mentor and what then?
• A registered TUT student may become a student mentor through:
- Application (reporting to the coordinator on the local campus)
- Nomination (identified by an Academic Department or Residence)
• Student mentors are selected according to specific criteria to undergo comprehensive training
• Mentors can specialise in tutoring subjects, social support and to assist students with disabilities
• The training programme leads to a certification to operate as a student mentor in TUT
In addition to the training of student mentors, the Directorate also provides a support service to assist Academic Departments and Residences (or any other initiating environment) in establishing student mentorship and tutorial programmes.
