How does Student Development and Support work?
Director: Dr van Heerden
Student Development and Support has only one focus namely, student success. This is engineered through an extensive but holistic service approach in targeted areas. Services are firstly presented in a pro-active mode attempting to empower and develop to avoid failure. These pro-active services manifests as Life Skills programmes, Language development programmes (including English, reading and writing), the programme for Student Mentorship @ TUT and Social Support/Psycho-Education programmes. At the same time, while presenting all the pro-active developmental services in classrooms and groups the individual supportive services remain in place to assist our students with matters beyond the classroom. The essential support services include personal counselling and therapy, career counselling, support for students with disability and remedial work in language proficiency. The Directorate attempts to offer the full portfolio of services across all learning sites of the University.
