COOPERATIVE EDUCATION (DCE)

Home | DCE | CDS | SDS | TLωT

DCE is the collaboration between the university, industry, commerce and the public sector in order to enhance learning. It forms an integral part of curriculum development and implementation and informs the teaching and learning strategy of the University. DCE has identified two main focus areas namely work integrated learning, and graduate recruitment and employability.

Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) is a structured form of experiential learning in a learning programme that focuses on the application of theory in an authentic (workplace-based learning) or non-workplace-based context. It addresses the specific competences identified for the acquisition of a qualification, and is therefore linked to the acquisition of credits, and supports the development of a range of skills that will render the qualifying student employable. Graduate Recruitment focuses on students who received or is about to receive an academic degree or diploma. Recruitment is the process of searching the candidates for employment and stimulating them to apply for jobs in the organisation. Recruitment links the employers and the job seekers. Read more >>>

Employability refers to a set of achievements namely skills, understandings and personal attributes that make graduates more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupation, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community and the economy.

DCE through partnerships, work integrated learning and graduate recruitment and employability all contribute to the students intellectual, professional and personal development. It provides and creates opportunities to all role players, which extend its resources into commerce and industry by providing a total learning experience.
