Early in 2015, TUT’s Department of Auditing received accreditation for its programmes from the IIA. Being an accredited Internal Auditing Education Partnership school (IAEP) enabled the University join 47 other international higher education institutions as an Internal Auditing Education Partnership (IAEP) school for internal audit.
Prof DP van der Nest, Head of the Department of Auditing explained that the IIA Foundation promotes the Institute of Internal Auditors’ educational strategies. According to him the IIA Foundation’s mission is “to carry out the educational and charitable purposes for the internal audit education of The Institute of Internal Auditors, by collecting and distributing funds to support the awareness and teaching of internal auditing in post-secondary education institutions worldwide”. Prof van der Nest welcomed this contribution. “The funds are earmarked to further assist with the development of video workplace simulation material and to support the department’s tutoring programme. The IIA Global has been very supportive of the internal audit programmes at TUT. We are grateful for the support from the IIA and the IIA foundation. It will benefit our students and we will share this material with the other IAEP schools globally,” he said.
IAEP programme was developed to respond to the growing interest in internal audit education at institutions of higher learning. The programme also addresses a general need of practitioners interested in hiring students who possesses a well-rounded skill set for conducting internal auditing.
The IAEP programme prepares students with the skills and knowledge to help them conduct basic internal audits immediately upon hire, as well as provide a foundation to begin preparing for the Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) examination.
