The reasoning behind the merger

The Government’s drive behind the merger was to transform higher education in the country and replace the previous system with one that offers greater access to meet the increasing human resource needs of the country. The continued existence of the three institutions in the Tshwane metropolitan area could not be justified in economic terms.

The merging of the three institutions’ skills, knowledge and facilities provides TUT with a unique window of opportunity to expand and improve its service, and enhance collaboration and the sharing of knowledge in related fields.
